Stand With Orlando

“This tragedy will not define us, but will bring us together. Because we are ONE Orlando.”
– Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer

ribbonThe Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta stands with Orlando. Our thoughts are with all of those touched by the terrible and tragic attack at PULSE nightclub. This attack left the community there, particularly the LGBTQ community, reeling and vulnerable. This intolerable act was motivated by hate – hate which has no place in our world or society. Saturday evening was Latin night at PULSE nightclub and a part of Pride Month, a night that should have been filled with joy and celebration for the diverse and wonderful crowd participating. Instead, for the 49 that were killed and 53 that were wounded, it became a nightmare and a lesson for all of us on the intolerance and lack of equality many in the LGBTQ community continue to face.

Our hearts go out to all of the Orlando community affected by this catastrophic attack – the families that are now planning and grieving at funerals and the shattered community. We wish them all peace and unity as they seek to recover.

The shooting in Orlando is considered the deadliest mass shooting and worst terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. May what has happened fuel change – change as we all rise to a common humanity and change to ensure that this never happens again.
