The Grant Professionals Association (GPA) has named the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta its 2016 Pioneer Award winner. Alicia Philipp and Kathy Palumbo were presented with the award at GPAs Annual Conference that took place in Atlanta last month.

The Pioneer Award recognizes the visionary contributions in grantmaking by those that have impacted their communities in the field of grantsmanship. Specifically, it recognizes an organization that has impacted and improved the way grant professionals do their work.

The Community Foundation was nominated by Atlanta GPA member Kimberly Hays de Muga, director of development for Frazer Center, an inclusive community offering research-based education, vocational support and therapeutic intervention to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

“The Community Foundation’s competitive grant programs include the ‘Holy Grail’ of grant funding, general operating support, which has given hundreds of nonprofits of all sizes the flexibility to better serve their own target populations,” de Muga said. “The Foundation’s thorough but fair application process challenges grant professionals and their respective organizations to demonstrate administrative and financial strength, in addition to showing a passion for improving their communities.”

De Muga added, “The Community Foundation is a true pioneer in bettering the lives of hundreds of thousands of Georgians with a compassionate and effective focus on sound grantmaking and community involvement.”
