It is that time of year again, where we deliberate over the best gifts to give family and friends and plan activities to celebrate the holiday. If you have yet to make a decision about your holiday plans and gifts, don’t fret – the greater Atlanta arts community offers a multitude of opportunities to share moments and build memories with loved ones. Check out how a few of our general operating support grantees are using the arts to usher in the holidays.
Arts Clayton, Inc. is a community arts organization dedicated to enriching lives through the arts. Its gallery highlights visual artists from the south metro area and hosts innovative community-building events through exhibits, competitions and cultural exchange programming. The organization recently hosted a Polar Express Party for children on December 7, where families had the opportunity to make ornaments, snow slime and Santa signs. There was also a hot chocolate dance party.
Cultural Arts Council Douglasville has been the primary arts producer and promoter in Douglas County with strong outreach into the community for more than 30 years. Within the past year, the CAC served over 30,000 individuals through a range of performances, exhibits, classes and events. Sign up for the “Let’s Get Crafty Special Workshop” and make special holiday gifts for loved ones.
Dad’s Garage is an award-winning nonprofit theatre company located in the historic Old Fourth Ward. The company performs more than 430 shows annually at an affordable price. Additionally, the company developed a High School Outreach Program that provides drama teachers with a free improv curriculum that meets Georgia State Curriculum Standards and improves failure resiliency, teamwork and overall confidence. You can spice up the holiday with the Invasion Christmas Carol, a satirical adaptation of the classic novella, A Christmas Carol. The show will run until December 28.
The Community Foundation recognizes the special role the arts play in our lives and our region. It allow us to express our values and serves as a fundamental component in making our community healthy and vibrant.
