Program Officer, Community Intelligence

Job Description


The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta strengthens its region by providing quality services to donors and innovative leadership on community issues. This position is a part of the Community Intelligence (CIQ) Team. The Community Intelligence Team is responsible for:

  • Seeking out new and innovative ways to maximize and leverage resources for community impact
  • Providing community leadership and building relationships with and between donors, nonprofits, and partners to drive Foundation Impact Areas of Arts, Community Development, Education, Nonprofit Effectiveness and Well-being
  • Building and launching community initiatives and programs within each Impact Area with an eye on continuous improvement
  • Gathering, storing, and sharing market intelligence
  • Monitoring and inserting public policy activities into Foundation work

The Program Officer will focus on designing, running, and owning programs and initiatives in at least one Impact Area or that are Foundation donor-focused.

Key Accountabilities of the Position (including but not limited to):

Donor Education and Engagement

  • Provide relevant, timely, and accurate information to facilitate learning and engagement opportunities for Foundation donors to meet their philanthropic goals through donor-led programs, grantmaking and other opportunities
  • Conceive and manage strategic donor-focused efforts to drive deeper engagement and giving

Impact Area and / or Donor Programs Portfolio Ownership and Management

  • Conduct portfolio planning including research community needs, identify new programs, initiatives, partnerships, and sources for external funding to drive achievement of Impact Area metrics
  • Work with Manager of Strategic Projects and Public Policy Specialist to design / build / launch new programs and initiatives
  • Run programs and initiatives including budget management, staffing, annual planning, coordinating activities / people / partners, reporting, partnership management, resolving problems, communication, staff management, tracking metrics, and working with internal partners to execute events, etc.
  • Monitor metrics including those in Impact Area Dashboard and evaluate existing programs and initiatives to measure value of efforts and adjust efforts, transition, retire or package for re-use where needed
  • Recruit and mobilize Foundation volunteers and partners to provide quality input to the achievement of Foundation goals, including strategic direction of impact area portfolio, grantmaking (criteria, review, evaluation) and co-investment
  • Communicate vision and purpose of impact area / program story and valu

Knowledge Management

  • Capture and share program / initiative knowledge internally for learning purposes, course corrections, redesign / updates of programs and initiatives, and externally with donors and other external community constituents

Thought Leadership

  • Create and deliver thought leadership internally, to donors, and on the local / national level to further Impact Area and / or field knowledge

Strategic Partner Development

  • Identify strategic opportunities for community collaborations and partnerships to achieve impact area and Foundation goals
  • Serve as a connector and leader in the metro Atlanta community to develop relationships and partnerships that further Impact Area, donor program, and Community Foundation’s purpose and strategic goals

CIQ Internal Team Operations

  • Collaborate with CIQ team members and other internal teams for efficient use of Foundation resources and to maximize effectiveness of all teams
  • Stay current and integrate industry best practices into day to day operations
  • Supervise direct reports and contractors. This includes recruiting, hiring, orienting, coaching and providing on-going feedback; performance planning, evaluation and professional development; recommendations for discipline, career development discussions and mentoring; communicating organizational policies and procedures

As a Program Officer Level 1 (Typically 1-4 years’ experience in position):

  • Performing activities of Program Officer Role listed above with regular coaching and guidance from manager

As a Program Officer Level 2 (Typically 5-10 years’ experience in position):

  • Demonstrated proficiency at all expectations of the Program Officer Role with ability to operate at high level of independence from manager
  • Starting to perform activities at Director role, including strategic planning across Impact Areas, developing and managing high-profile community and donor relationships

Qualifications

Experience:
6- 10 years’ professional experience related to the duties and responsibilities outlined in this profile; preferred experience in community-based and / or nonprofit organizations

Education:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree Preferred) in social services, human services, community development, public policy or related field(s)

Skills:

  • Strategic mindset coupled with experience in program development / management with a proven track record of implementation success
  • Experience working with a variety of community, public and private sector partners
  • Flexible, resourceful, creative self-starter able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Good problem-solving skills with a willingness to be flexible and proactive in a fast-paced workplace
  • Experience with the operations of nonprofit organizations, including budgeting, board and staff development, administrative and management systems
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, facilitation and presentation skills, with acuity for connecting Foundation donors with Community causes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Experience in use of Blackbaud software preferred
