Supporting our community by donating cryptocurrency

Thank you for supporting greater equity and shared prosperity in the Atlanta region through a donation of cryptocurrency to the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

Before you complete your gift, we’d like to talk with you about how you want to make an impact in our community. Please contact Josh Dukelow (404.588.3208 or jdukelow@cfgreateratlanta.org) to discuss the many ways your gift can be used and the tax advantages of donating cryptocurrency.

When you give cryptocurrency worth $500 or more, you will need to file Form 8283 with the IRS. For gifts of $5,000 or more, you will need a qualified appraisal that meets IRS requirements. (We can recommend qualified appraisers). If an appraisal is required, the appraiser will need to sign the Form 8283, as will a staff person from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, before you submit it to the IRS.

In addition, the Community Foundation is required to file Form 8282 reporting the sale to the IRS. We’ll provide you with a copy of that form.

Thank you for your donation!
