Power and Leadership

Amplifying every voice.

The Power and Leadership TogetherATL Fund ensures all residents in Atlanta have a voice and are empowered to use it. This Fund supports the efforts of organizations working to increase civic engagement and voter participation rates in communities of color.

The objective is to achieve voting rates equal to, or exceeding, the national average by 2026. By active participation in a variety of programs working to get out the vote, as well as involvement in community organizing events and promotion of media coverage for our activities, we are working to shift political power to residents of the community.

While 2020 was a historic year in Georgia, voter participation rates between groups were still disproportionate. Specifically, 70.9% of white Georgians cast votes in 2020, compared to only 58.4% of nonwhite Georgians who did so. Securing full voter representation requires robust voter participation using a multi-pronged, nonpartisan approach — including voter registration and mobilization, voter protection and equitable redistricting.

Vote Your Voice

A core methodology of TogetherATL is leveraging partnerships to succeed. The “Vote Your Voice” initiative is sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry by pursuing justice for victims of discrimination, exploitation and oppression.

Vote Your Voice provides grants to organizations in five Southern states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Those grant-funded organizations work on a range of activities to secure full voter participation and achieve equitable representation. This fund is hosted at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and is managed jointly.
