It was around 75 degrees. Felt like mid-May, but it was mid-November in our fair city. Instead of the earth showing off its spring coat of newly born flora and fauna, the vast array of fall colors surrounded me everywhere–the leaves making their unique snap, crackle and pop, under my footsteps, the leaves swirling in mid-air, driven to their death by the wind, and of course, those leaves still clinging to their mothers’ arms. What they all shared was an innate gift, the gift of bringing amazement to all who were able to see them in all their fall splendor.
Walking our little ten-year old Yorkie last week took a little longer than usual because I kept stopping to take in the beauty of our Atlanta fall. How grateful I was just to be alive and able to appreciate the changing season. Then I asked myself, as the seasons change, do we too change? Oh yes, we change our clothes, out come the sweaters and coats; time to stack the short-sleeve tees in the back of the drawer. But where it really counts, on the inside of us, do we change with the turning of the seasons?
I hope we do. At this season of Thanksgiving, I would like to suggest a change for both you and me. Please join with me in being just a little more thankful for the blessings in our lives. Whether it be for the gifts of nature found on the twirling blue orb we all call home, or the people who form our family and friends, or all those who serve our nation and our community, or…? Each of us I believe could complete this list a thousand fold times, and never run out of blessings to be thankful for.
Would you take a moment and share with me some of the blessings in your life for which you are thankful?
