Book Discussion: There is No Place for Us

This summer, the Philanthropy team will be reading Brian Goldstone’s Pultizer Prize-winning book There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America. Through the unforgettable stories of five Atlanta families, this landmark work of journalism exposes a new and troubling trend—the dramatic rise of the “working homeless” in cities across America.
Donors are invited to join us for a book discussion on Wednesday, August 12 at 12 p.m. in our offices at 191 Peachtree St NE. We’ll provide the space, conversation guide, and lunch—all you need to bring is yourself and a copy of the book!

The 8th Inning of Impact: An Evening with Tom Johnson

On Tuesday, November 10, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta invites you to an inspiring evening at The Carter Center’s Cecil B. Day Chapel with award‑winning journalist, public servant, and philanthropist Tom Johnson, author of the memoir Driven: A Life in Public Service and Journalism from LBJ to CNN (UGA Press, 2025).
Introduced by Jack Hardin and in conversation with WABE’s Jennifer Dorian, Johnson will share wisdom and lessons learned from a storied career in journalism and public service—followed by reflections from a profound “8th inning” of renewed purpose, advocacy, and community impact in retirement.
