Over the past month, the southeast region of the United States has been beset by wildfires. With drought gripping the area, intense and destructive fires have raged in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee for much of November. Particularly hard hit has been Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the surrounding forest and cities. Blazes forced the evacuation of more than 14,000 people, the closure of Great Smokey Mountain National Park and caused the destruction of hundreds of buildings. At the latest count, three lives have been lost. Our thoughts are with all of those that are suffering in the wake of this tragedy.
Storms over the last couple of days will bring some relief, but the wildfires continue to burn. And for those who have lost their business or homes, recovery will be a long, hard road. You can donate to help with that recovery to the nonprofit organizations listed below. We will continue to add to this list in the coming days.
