Anti-racism organizations

As cases of racial injustice and systemic racism continue to be revealed within our city and throughout our nation, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta strives to be an organization that is not only anti-racist but openly stands in support of our Black colleagues, donors, nonprofit partners and neighbors. Many of our donors have voiced their desire to use philanthropic capital to make a difference during these tough times and we hear you. Below is a list of anti-racism organizations that are actively providing support and assistance to individuals locally and nationwide who have been victims of racial injustice and systemic racism. Let’s continue to work on building an equitable community together.

Black Lives Matter – Black Lives Matter is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, it is winning immediate improvements in lives. Its fiscal sponsor is Thousand Currents, a 501(c)(3) Public Charity (EIN 77-0071852).

Campaign Zero – Campaign Zero support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.

Community Movement Builders – Community Movement Builders is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. We rely on the generosity of our members, donors, and volunteers to build grassroots movements and organize our community. Donate here or mail a donation to 790 Welch St, SW, Atlanta, Ga, 30310. Georgia Justice Project – Georgia Justice Project strengthens our community by demonstrating a better way to represent and support individuals in the criminal justice system and reduce barriers to reentry.  GJP promotes innovative change through direct legal representation, policy advocacy, education and coalition building.

Georgia NAACP – The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.

Housing Justice League – Housing Justice League works with renters and homeowners to self-organize and defend their right to remain. We fight to preserve affordable housing, for just living conditions, to prevent gentrification, and to build community power for an Atlanta-wide housing justice movement.

I Run With Maud – GoFundMe for Wanda Cooper-Jones, Ahmaud Arbery’s mother, and her family.

Just Georgia – Just Georgia is an organization that working with partners to ensure that arrested protesters receive the representation they are entitled to.

Partnership for Southern Equity – Partnership for Southern Equity is a local organization that works for racial equity and opportunity in Atlanta and across the South. Founder Nathaniel Smith is a member of our editorial advisory board.

Southern Center for Human Rights – Southern Center for Human Rights is a Atlanta-based organization that fights for those impacted by the criminal justice system in the South.

The ACLU of Georgia – ACLU of Georgia is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group of lawyers, advocates, and members fighting together for fairness and justice for all.

The Atlanta Solidarity Fund – The Atlanta Solidarity Fund is a fund that supports people in Atlanta who have been arrested for taking action against social injustice. Focused primarily on bailing out arrestees, with priority for those who have the most need.

The Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid Fund – The Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid Fund was created by community members from metro-Atlanta who have witnessed the needs of their neighbors at this time of crisis. Our funds are targeted towards Black, Indigenous, and peoples of color. We will give special consideration within these communities to women/femmes, non-binary and queer folks, the poor and working class, people living with disabilities, and undocumented and refugee members.

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) – The Movement for Black Lives is a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, convene organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement wide strategy.

The National Association of Black Journalists – NABJ is a national organization that empowers black journalists and has a local chapter here in Atlanta.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference – SCLC is an African-American civil rights organization. SCLC is closely associated with its first president, Martin Luther King Jr., who had a large role in the American civil rights movement

The Southern Poverty Law Center – SPLC is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

Urban League of Greater Atlanta – ULGATL is a local chapter of the national organization that works to foster economic empowerment in underserved communities.

Women on the Rise – Women on the Rise is a policy-advocacy organization of women targeted and/or impacted by the criminal legal system. Women on the Rise works to educate, heal, and empower ourselves, one another, and our communities to demand justice, dignity, and liberation for all.
