Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta awards 30 organizations with grants to advance equity

More than $1.3 million in discretionary and co-invested funding awarded to 30 organizations advancing equity in three key areas: Income & Wealth, Housing & Neighborhoods, and Power & Leadership

ATLANTA – November 3, 2022 – The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta announces more than $1.3 million in grants to 30 organizations working to advance equity in three key areas of focus for the Foundation: Income and Wealth, Housing and Neighborhoods and Power and Leadership. Equity and shared prosperity are the Foundation’s touchstone, as established through TogetherATL, its five-year strategic plan announced last June.

“At its core, equity is about power—who has it, how they wield it and who they invite to share in it,” said Ayana Gabriel, vice president Community Impact for the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. “By awarding these grants to organizations devoted to closing the wealth gap, financial literacy and holding the powerful accountable through local journalism, the Community Foundation is demonstrating our commitment to helping historically disinvested communities gain a seat at the table. We are working to advance equity in a tangible way.”

Grants awarded through Income & Wealth TogetherATL Fund

Fifteen organizations received more than $500,000 in funding through this open grant cycle. 

• 9to5 Georgia: $50,000 for paid leave for employees
• Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency: $30,000 co-investment for financial coaching
• College AIM: $20,000 to support programs that help students afford college
• Georgia Watch: $20,000 for consumer advocacy in healthcare, financial protection, and more
• Latino Community Fund INC: $50,000 for access to SNAP and WIC, microgrants and small college scholarships
• On the Rise: $10,000 for financial coaching
• On the Road Lending: $25,000 for programs providing credit building through car ownership
• One Day Endowments, Inc.: $10,000 for financial literacy support programs
• Raksha, Inc.: $30,000 co-investment for financial coaching
• Refugee Women’s Network, Inc.: $50,000 for programs teaching credit building through the lending cycle
• REMERGE: $30,000 for entrepreneurship coaching
• Small Business Majority Foundation, Inc.: $50,000 to support small businesses
• Usher’s New Look: $30,000 for financial literacy programs for youth
• VISIONful: $45,000 for entrepreneurship coaching
• Women’s Entrepreneurial Opportunity Project, Inc. (WEOP): $45,000 for entrepreneurship coaching

Grants awarded for Income & Wealth through other funds

The following organizations received co-investment (“matching” grants) by an anonymous donor and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta

• COR, Inc.: $10,000 for general operating support
• Hope for Youth (HYPE): $10,000 for general operating support
• House of Dawn: $10,000 for general operating support

Grant awarded through the TogetherATL General Fund

This fund supports equity strategies, with a focus on racial equity, across our region.

• Step Ahead Scholars: $25,000 for coaching, strategic planning and capacity building; $25,000 for general operating support

Field of Interest Grants

Field of interest grants are established by donors to support organizations addressing specific issues, populations, or geographies.

• AIDS Walk Atlanta: $50,000 co-investment for the Positive Impact Health Centers (PIHC) 2022 AIDS Walk campaign
• Dharma Project: $25,000 for general operating support
• The Confess Project: $13,000 for general operating support
• Jerusalem House: $50,000 for general operating support
• The Showcase Group: $25,000 for general operating support
• Ubuntu Community Catalyst, Inc. :$25,000 to support the LiveWell South Fulton Youth Council

Housing & Neighborhoods Grants

These grants support the Foundation’s goal of creating 5,000 units of affordable housing throughout our region by 2026 and provide support for organizations helping people stay in their neighborhoods or find new, affordable homes.

• Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF): $60,000 co-investment over one year to expand legal services for Atlanta residents facing eviction
• HouseATL: $300,000 over one year for general operating support

Power & Leadership

This fund ensures everyone in Atlanta has a voice and is empowered to use it, with a goal to increase civic engagement and voter participation rates in communities of color equal to or exceeding the national average by 2026.

• Georgia News Collaborative: $200,000 over one year for general operating support to launch the collaborative.
