Residential real estate law firm supports affordable, stable housing for local residents

ATLANTA – March 24, 2023 – Campbell & Brannon, a residential real estate law firm serving the Atlanta region since 1998, announces $90,000 in grants to two local nonprofits from the Campbell & Brannon Philanthropy Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity will each receive a $45,000 grant to support services targeted to residents of Atlanta’s Thomasville Heights community who have been relocated from the Forest Cove apartments to safer family homes after the complex was condemned for poor living conditions. Funding will also assist Thomasville area homeowners requiring urgent repairs to remain in a safe and livable residence.

AVLF has been the lead agency and advocates throughout the relocation of more than 200 families from Forest Cove, providing ongoing case management and supportive services that will continue until families can return to a permanent residence. Campbell & Brannon supported AVLF’s efforts in Forest Cove with an initial grant in 2022, and this year deepens its impact to fund legal counsel, support from social workers and targeted assistance for the neighborhood’s senior homeowners with the goal of keeping these residents in their homes. AVLF was created in 1979 and it is the largest provider of pro bono legal services in Greater Atlanta, aiming to create safe and stable homes and families by inspiring the fight for equal justice.

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity has empowered thousands of families through homeownership since 1983 by spurring neighborhood revitalization and enabling homeowners to pursue educational and professional goals that will positively impact families for generations. Among its programs across the region Atlanta Habitat is working directly with the Thomasville community through its “Repair with Kindness” program that provides much-needed repairs to homes that will help legacy homeowners, many of whom are seniors, ensure that their homes are safe, efficient and accessible.

Campbell & Brannon launched its philanthropy fund at the Community Foundation in 2022, designating a portion of revenue received in each residential real estate closing toward charitable donations. The firm works with its staff and advisors from the Community Foundation to identify nonprofits that improve the lives of local residents specifically in the housing realm. Firm employees then identify grant recipients that best meet the aim of the philanthropy fund. This effort is part of its “Campbell & Brannon Shows the Love” program that each February recognizes the firm’s hard work year-round that enables staff to give back to the community that has helped the firm thrive.

“We feel an obligation to give back to the community that has enabled us to thrive. We are laser focused on efforts that will allow the dream of a safe and affordable home to become a reality for families in our community, and both AVLF and Atlanta Habitat have a strong track record making those dreams come true,” said Camille Brannon, managing partner at Campbell and Brannon. “Our partnership with the Community Foundation is essential to ensure we can pinpoint nonprofits that have expertise in reaching those who can benefit from this support the most.”

Community Foundation President and CEO, Frank Fernandez, applauded the firm’s commitment. “Access to affordable housing and generational wealth building through home ownership is a tenant of our strategic plan, TogetherATL, and our mission to make Atlanta a prosperous place for all who call it home,” he said. “The Foundation’s efforts rely on commitment and engagement across our community, and Camille and her team are all-in on sharing the love and supporting nonprofits leading the way toward more equitable housing access.”

Atlanta ranks worst in the nation for income inequality. As the region sees further growth, it is necessary to invest in programs and organizations that give residents equal and equitable opportunity to learn, work, civically engage and contribute to a healthy and thriving community. Stable, affordable housing impacts a family’s prospects including where children go to school, access to good-paying jobs and availability of reliable healthcare, healthy food and other resources essential to a good quality of life. The Community Foundation is committed to tackling these challenges and relies on broad-based support from committed partners like Campbell & Brannon to drive measurable change.
