The Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium, also known as Southern Black Girls, showcases Black girls and women in the South and how they change the world daily. Anchored by four Black Women Executive Directors, who have worked in the philanthropic sector for over 20 years, this collective supports a community that is often underfunded.

The collective is led by four anchor institutions – the Appalachian Community Fund, the BlackBelt Community Foundation, the Fund for Southern Communities and the TruthSpeaks Innovation Foundation – and supports young Black girls throughout the Southeast region in areas such as education, leadership, social justice and wellness.

“When I think about Black history, I think about resilience,” Joy Webb, Network Engagement Manager for the Consortium says. “It is clear that there’s been lots of trauma and pain in the Black community, but we as a people have continued to push forward and thrive.”

For Black girls and women, Southern Black Girls has been a game changer. “When the organizations we partner with receive a grant, they see that Black Women believe and support them and their work,” Webb says.
