Donor spotlight: Julia Houston

Opportunity is that moment in time when something becomes possible.

For Julia Houston and our Foundation, the opportunity for impact began in 2010 when Julia’s accountant suggested that she open a donor-advised fund. At the time, Julia didn’t know much about the Foundation, but she trusted his endorsement of the unmatched convenience and excellent support she would receive.  In addition to easily supporting the causes she loves, her relationship with the Foundation has allowed her to learn about new organizations through tailored recommendations from her philanthropic advisor and facilitated site visits. As her engagement increased, she began to appreciate the community of donors and opportunity to collaborate for greater impact — something she knew that she wouldn’t experience anywhere else!

And then another opportunity presented itself. In 2020, Julia was invited to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors, creating the opportunity to accelerate her learning about the Foundation’s impact on the community and to be part of helping to shape the new strategic plan. 

“I see so much opportunity to have a positive impact for Atlanta through our TogetherATL plan. The needs in our community are pressing and urgent, and as a donor and a Board member, I’m committed to working to solve them.” said Julia. “I see the Community Foundation’s unique ability to be both a convener and a champion, and it’s incredibly exciting to be a part of it.”

Julia Houston, a donor turned Board member, has always looked for opportunities to show up with what she has to offer to make our community better for all the people who are part of it.  

Together with the Community Foundation, she is making impact possible one opportunity at a time.
