For Courtnay Bazemore, philanthropy has never been just a line item. It’s an opportunity.
As a Principal at Windham Brannon and a charitably minded CPA, Courtnay has spent years helping clients navigate complex financial decisions. But some of the most meaningful conversations she has aren’t about numbers—they’re about impact.
“I have the good fortune of working with a lot of philanthropic clients,” she says. “Whether they’re new to giving or have been doing it for years, they all want to make a difference. The question is often “where to start?”
That’s where the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta comes in.
From Early Connection to Lasting Partnership
Courtnay’s relationship with the Foundation began early in her career, when she was invited to participate in a planned giving advisory council. The experience gave her a window into the Foundation’s work and a foundation of knowledge she still draws on today.
“It allowed me to understand what the Foundation was all about as I advanced in my own career,” she says. “That was important so I could share that story with clients.”
Over time, that understanding evolved into something deeper: a trusted partnership she now relies on to help clients bring their philanthropic goals to life.
Guiding Clients from Intent to Impact
Many of Courtnay’s clients come to her with a desire to give back, but without a clear roadmap.
“Often they want to make a change in a specific area—homelessness, food insecurity, mental health—but they’re not sure where to begin,” she explains. “The Foundation is a partner in those situations.”
With deep knowledge of Atlanta’s nonprofit landscape, the Foundation helps clients identify organizations aligned with their values, vet opportunities, and build a tailored philanthropic strategy.
“An idea is only so good until it’s executed,” Courtnay says. “The Foundation helps turn that idea into a reality, moving from intent to actual impact.”
A Local Lens That Makes a Difference
For clients who care deeply about Atlanta, that local expertise is essential.
“What sets the Foundation apart is its dedicated, focused interest in improving the community that we call home,” she says. “You’re not just making a donation, you’re understanding where it’s going and the difference it’s making.”
Courtnay points to opportunities like educational site visits as a powerful way for clients to engage more deeply.
“That’s huge to be able to see firsthand the hands of an organization making a difference. You don’t get that with larger, more national platforms.”
Building Trust—and Stronger Client Relationships
As a trusted advisor, Courtnay is thoughtful about every referral she makes. Introducing a client to a partner requires confidence and accountability.
“I’m putting a lot of trust in that referral,” she says. “But I know that when I connect a client to the Foundation, they’re in good hands.”
That trust not only benefits her clients, it strengthens her relationships with them.
“Working with the Foundation deepens those relationships because I know their goals will be supported with care and expertise.”
Creating a Legacy Across Generations
For many clients, philanthropy becomes even more meaningful when it extends beyond their lifetime.
“Clients get excited about including their children in conversations around giving,” Courtnay says. “The Foundation makes it possible to involve multiple generations and introduce new ideas and causes.”
Through donor-advised funds and long-term planning, families can build a legacy that reflects their values today and for years to come.
“A client gets a lot of satisfaction by giving while they’re living,” she says. “But knowing that your giving will continue to benefit Atlantans well into the future—that’s just as powerful.”
A Center of Gravity for Giving
For clients with broad philanthropic interests, the Foundation often becomes a central hub for planning and action.
“With dedicated services, deep community knowledge, and flexibility, the Foundation becomes a point of reference—a center of gravity—for charitable giving,” Courtnay says.
It’s a role that aligns closely with what matters most to her: helping clients use what they have to make a meaningful difference.
“The Community Foundation helps my clients make a difference in their own community,” she says. “And that’s what this work is all about.”
