Help the victims of Hurricane Laura

Late last week, Hurricane Laura tore through Louisiana, Texas and surrounding states. An estimated 18 people lost their lives in the storm and as many as 17,000 evacuees are seeking shelter in Louisiana and Texas hotels. Over 350,000 people are without power and restoring electricity could take four weeks. Given that so many are displaced, it may also be weeks or months before the full damage from the storm is known. Response is especially hard amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Many of our donors want to know how they can help. Below is a list of nonprofits assisting the victims of Hurricane Laura or laying a path for future recovery. We will continue to add to this list in the coming days as more information becomes available.

• Americares delivers medicine, medical supplies and other critical aid
• Cajun Navy Relief & Rescue conducts rescue efforts and delivering supplies to those in need
• Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana Hurricane Relief and Recovery Fund implements short term disaster grants to pay for food, shelter, medicine and other necessities that help stabilize those in most immediate need
• SBP provides direct services in hurricane-impacted communities
• United Way of Southwest Louisiana supports immediate response efforts
