Scottdale Early Learning doubles impact with second facility

After more than 40 years of serving young children from low to moderate-income families in the Scottdale and Decatur area, Scottdale Early Learning has purchased a second child care facility just three miles from its original location. The new facility will double the number of children the nonprofit is able to serve and will eliminate its two-year wait list beginning in the fall of 2019. The spark of this exciting expansion came during the development of a comprehensive strategic plan, funded by the Community Foundation, to help the organization achieve its goal of serving more children and families.

Scottdale has launched a $1.8 million capital campaign to fund the renovation of the new building, as well as the hiring and training of new staff. Board and staff leadership was able to purchase the new facility through a combination of fundraising efforts and a bridge loan designed by the Reinvestment Fund, which was itself supported by a loan from the Community Foundation’s impact investing program, the GoATL Fund. This bridge loan made the investment possible while the organization continues its campaign.

Scottdale Early Learning provides early education that fosters the intellectual, creative, social, emotional and physical development of students age 6 weeks to 5 years old, mitigating socioeconomic disadvantages through high-quality education, family involvement and community engagement.
